Where Mountain Biking Was Born

Where Mountain Biking Was Born

Since 1971, Sunshine Bicycle Center has been serving the cycling community in Fairfax, California. We’re not just Marin’s oldest independent bike shopβ€”we’re part of the birthplace of mountain biking itself.

Our Story

Located in the heart of Fairfax, just steps from Mt. Tamalpais and the legendary trails where mountain biking was invented, Sunshine has been there from the beginning. We’ve watched the sport evolve from klunkers bombing down fire roads to today’s high-tech trail machines.

Over 50 years, we’ve completed more than 500,000 repairs, sold thousands of bikes, and helped countless riders discover the joy of two wheels. We’re proud to be part of this community.

What We Believe

  • Local matters - We’re not a chain. We’re your neighbors.
  • Every bike deserves care - We service all brands, all types, all budgets.
  • The trails are for everyone - We support trail advocacy and youth cycling programs.
  • Experience counts - Our staff brings decades of combined bike shop experience.

Our Team

Our experienced mechanics and staff are passionate cyclists who ride the same trails you do. We know these bikes because we ride them. We know these trails because we maintain them. And we know this community because we’re part of it.

Community Involvement

We’re proud supporters of:

  • Friends of Tamarancho - Trail maintenance and advocacy
  • Marin Trail Stewards - Adaptive cycling programs
  • Local scholastic MTB clubs - Getting kids on bikes
  • Marin County Bicycle Coalition - Trail access and safety

Every demo event we host raises money for local trails. Every kid we sponsor gets closer to a lifelong love of cycling.
